Description

Dr. Ying Kit, WONG is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Data Science at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. He specializes in Game Design & Development and STEM/STEAM pedagogy, with research expertise spanning Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), game design & development, serious games, gamification, and VR/AR/XR technology.

As a dedicated scholar and Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Ying Kit, WONG has successfully secured competitive research funding from the Research Grants Council (RGC) - University Grants Committee (UGC) of Hong Kong to drive forward interdisciplinary technology research. His awarded grants include the Faculty Development Scheme (FDS) for HK$505,324 and the Research Matching Grant Scheme (RMGS) for HK$50,000. Also, he has successfully secured the research funding from the Research Internship Scheme (RIS) by University Research Grants (URG) of Hong Kong Shue Yan University for HK$14,784. These funded projects underscore his capacity to lead impactful initiatives.

Dr. Wong holds a Ph.D. in Design Science and a Master’s Degree in Design from Tatung University (Taiwan), where his research focused on HCI applications in game-based cognitive training for elderly populations. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering from Boston University (USA). His dual-track training in technical and design disciplines enables interdisciplinary research in game design & development, mobile gaming, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR).

As a Specialist at the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) for Computer and Design disciplines, Dr. Wong contributes to academic quality assurance frameworks. His scholarly contributions include publications in SCI/SCIE/SSCI-indexed journals on game design & development and cognitive training, alongside presentations at international conferences.

Recognized for practical innovation, Dr. Wong received the First Prize Champion Award at both the Hong Kong Entrepreneur Competition (2015) and Hong Kong Toy Design Competition (2014). His current research investigates HCI applications and cognitive training in serious games, gamification, and STEM/STEAM education tools.

Dr. Wong teaches courses in digital entertainment and game design & development. He actively mentors students in research and innovation competitions while fostering industry-academic partnerships.
