Prof. LEUNG Wing Chi, Louis
Dr. Louis Leung joined the Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) as a professor, following his retirement from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2018. Currently, he has stepped down from the position of Department Head of Applied Data Science and continued to serve as the Adjunct Professor here. At CUHK, he developed the MSc in New Media of which he was the Programme Director (2000-2018). At HKSYU, he has also developed the BA in Media Design and Immersive Technology programme and a new course titled Data Journalism and Augmented-Reality-Enhanced News.
His research focuses on cyberpsychology, media addiction, ICT and quality of life, internet literacy, telecommuting, free time boredom, multitasking and smartphone use, and eHealth/mHealth. He teaches New Communication Technologies: Trends & Impacts, Mass Communication Theories, Statistics, and Communication Research Methods.
Dr. Leung is the Associate Editor of Journal of Computer-mediated Communication (3 out of 92 in communication; IF=5.366) and of Telematics & Informatics (IF=4.139). He was the past Editor of Chinese Journal of Communication (2008-2012). His work appeared in many journals across disciplines including New Media & Society, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, CyberPsychology & Behavior, Computers in Human Behavior, Social Indicators Research, Social Science and Computer Reviews, Telematics and Informatics, and Telecommunications Policy, among others. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from The University of Texas at Austin.
