Admission Requirements

 

Applicants are required to meet the University's General Entrance Requirements for postgraduate programmes. For admission to the MSc-GDM programme, applicants should hold a recognised bachelor's degree in digital media, computer science, digital business, or other related areas from an institution recognised by the University. Both recent graduates and individuals with relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply.

 

 

English Proficiency Requirement

 

Fluency in English, in both oral and written forms, is required of all applicants. Applicants with degrees from an institution where the medium of instruction is English will be assumed to have met this requirement.

 

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfil the following minimum English proficiency requirement.

 

(a)   Overall score 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic), with no subtest score lower than 5.5;

(b)      Score 550 (Paper-based test) or 80 (Internet-based test) in TOEFL; 

(c)      CET6 450; (OR)

(d)      Other equivalent qualifications.

 

 

Admission Interviews

 

After evaluating the academic performance and/or creative portfolio of applicants, the Department will conduct group or individual interviews as part of the selection process. The selection criteria will consider a combination of academic results and/or portfolio assessment, and performance in the interview.

 

 

Mode of Study

 

Full-Time in ONE year (2 semesters)

Part-Time in TWO years (4 semesters)

 

 

Course Exemptions

 

An applicant who has previously completed comparable courses may apply to the Head of Department (HoD) for exemption. The courses taken must be at the postgraduate level or equivalent (QF Level 6) and have been passed with a Grade B- or above. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be made within the prescribed period before the commencement of the programme and supported by a copy of the transcript and /or other academic credentials.

 

Applicant who has demonstrated advanced skills and completed relevant courses in game programming and game production before this programme are eligible for applying for exemption. The only two advanced technical core courses eligible for exemption are “GDM 511 Game Design and Programming” and “GDM 512 Advanced Digital Processes: From Innovative Computation to Production.” No elective courses are eligible for exemption. The maximum number of credits that can be exempted in completing the MSc-GDM programme is 6.

 

Replacement for the exempted credits is not required and no adjustment to tuition fees will be granted. In no case will the normative period of study be shortened.
