Dr. Yunping ZHANG (Sherry)

Assistant Professor

Description

Dr. Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Data Science at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. She earned her Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong (HKU), M.Sc. from Imperial College London (ICL) , and B.Sc. degrees from the University of Glasgow (UofG) and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC).

Her research focuses on computational imaging powered by artificial intelligence, encompassing algorithm design and real-world applications. During her time at HKU, she conducted research work on holographic microscopy, a cutting-edge tool for non-invasive and non-destructive 3D investigations in biomedical imaging, material science, and metrology. Dr. Zhang has developed innovative algorithms to address inverse imaging problems using physics-informed AI and generative modelling, with her findings published in research journals such as APL Photonics, Advanced Photonics Research, Optics Express, and Applied Optics.

Dr. Zhang’s achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Dissertation Year Fellowship and Presidential PhD Scholarship from HKU, the Bauchop Lindsay Halliday Engineering Prize from UofG, and the Major Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Performance from UESTC. In 2022, she participated in the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN) and won the Golden Prize (team award).

Beyond academia, Dr. Zhang gained industry experience as an Algorithm Engineer at MeiTuan, Beijing, where she contributed to image-based roadmap development. She is also a passionate runner and regularly participates in half-marathon.
