Programme Overview

 

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Digital Solutions for Entertainment and Game Applications (BSc-DSEGA) aims to address the growing need for digital professionals who can fluidly and competently combine (a) professional and technical skills in digital entertainment and gaming applications; (b) knowledge and vision of various social science and business domains; and (c) project management and communication skills in interdisciplinary and collaborative projects.

 

The BSc-DSEGA programme is designed to train students to operate as a “hub”, enabling them to develop technological solutions in the context of social science/business practices. The BSc-DSEGA thus occupies a unique position and offers unique provision to the digital entertainment and gaming industries.

 

The BSc-DSEGA programme adopts a holistic approach to programme curriculum design which is a unique multi-dimensional approach to programme curriculum design. The Programme contains two types of courses: (a) Professional Production Courses (PPC); and (b) Multi-dimensional Knowledge Courses (MKC). Together, they create an integrated platform that supports students in developing interdisciplinary applications of digital entertainment technologies, game production, artificial intelligence, and social robotics skills in collaborative projects.

 

 

 
 
Professional Internship and Capstone Project

 

Professional Internship

 

During the summer between Year 3 and Year 4, students will have the chance to undertake a 2-month, 3-credit professional internship. During this internship, students are expected to work in affiliated companies or organisations for a period of 3 weeks, with a 5-day working week and 8 hours per day, totalling 120 working hours.

 

This internship is designed to provide students with practical experience in creative industries. It can be completed locally, regionally, or even overseas in a variety of industries, including digital entertainment agencies, game development companies, marketing and advertising firms, education and academic bodies, museums, and public service agencies.

 

Capstone Project

 

In the final term of Year 4, BSc-DSEGA students will be required to undertake an individual Capstone Project. This project involves collaborating with industry partners to apply digital entertainment and game solutions creatively for real-world business/social/humanistic problems. By engaging in this capstone project, graduates of the programme will receive a comprehensive education and gain a competitive advantage in the creative industry sectors. The capstone project ensures that students are well-prepared for the workplace and equipped with in-depth practical experience gained through engaging with a diverse range of real-world problem-solving case studies across various domains.

 

The capstone project is focused on developing innovative digital solutions that are of practical or commercial value. It is driven by industry needs, providing students with the opportunity to work on research, idea development, and generating innovative solutions that tackle real-world problems and creative challenges. This experience equips students with the necessary creative competencies, skills, knowledge, and expertise to enhance their employability upon graduation.
