The Department of Applied Data Science (ADS) hosted a well-attended seminar on February 25th featuring Dr. C.H. Cheng, Director of Research and Technology Development at the Logistics & Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM). The diverse audience of faculty, students, and industry practitioners gathered to explore how AloT can contribute to urban management.

Under the theme "AloT for a Safer and Smarter Hong Kong," Dr. Cheng discussed innovative applications of AloT in traffic management, public safety, and emergency response, highlighting technologies like thermal-enabled traffic systems and public safety solutions, including their role in tackling challenges like Covid-19. He also shared insights into key projects, such as the smart luggage handling system at Hong Kong International Airport, which uses IoT and AI to improve efficiency and passenger experience. Dr. Cheng’s research on smart traffic control and landslide detection further illustrated the potential of AloT in shaping future smart cities. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where Dr. Cheng provided detailed answers and expanded on related topics.


Dr. Cheng, a distinguished scholar in the field with over 100 publications, extensive editorial experience, and the supervision of 26 graduate students, has made significant contributions to advancing IoT and urban management initiatives in Hong Kong.
