On January 25th, during the finals of the 2024 Open Data Hackathon, a team of four undergraduate students from the Department of Applied Data Science (ADS) received the "Best Innovation Award" for their project titled "Flavour Fusion." The team, comprising Mr. Lou Zetao, Mr. Guan Zhenyue, Mr. Li Yinlin, and Mr. Huang Ruitao, was coached by faculty members from the ADS. They proposed a community-based food delivery and AI-supported sharing system specifically designed for individuals living alone. The judging panel commended the project for its innovation and its alignment with real-world needs, highlighting the students' engagement with addressing social issues. The team members expressed that this award not only recognized their hard work but also served as motivation to further explore innovative solutions for enhancing smart living in the future.

Information about the Competition

The "Open Data Hackathon 2024," as one of Hong Kong's annual tech innovation events, attracted enthusiastic participation from contestants of various age groups and backgrounds, including university students, primary and secondary school students, and public teams. This year's competition, themed "Smart Living," was held in conjunction with the upcoming 2025 National Games in Hong Kong. It aimed to encourage participants to utilize open government data resources, combined with artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cloud technologies, to design innovative solutions that enhance urban living quality. The competition covered multiple areas, such as healthcare, support for the elderly and special needs groups, emergency response, optimization of public facilities, electronic payments, and digital identity authentication. It also specifically addressed the needs of large-scale events like the National Games, exploring innovative applications in crowd control, route planning, and travel and accommodation recommendations.
