The Department of Applied Data Science is pleased to invite you to attend the iFREE GROUP Innovation and Research Centre Colloquium Series 2021/22 webinar given by Dr. Gerhard Hancke, Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong. The topic is Ad-Hoc Security for Smart Things

Dr. Hancke is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 2009, and a LLB from the University of South Africa in 2014. Previously he worked as researcher and as teaching fellow at Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL). His research interests are system security, reliable communication, and distributed sensing for the industrial Internet-of-Things. In 2019 he was awarded J. David Irwin Early Career Award for “research and educational contributions and impact on secure and reliable technology for the Industrial Internet-of-Things” by IEEE IES.

The abstract of the presentation can be found below:

Abstract: We are increasingly surrounded by simple and not so simple devices with computational and communication capability, which assist us in everyday tasks and together comprise the idea of an Internet-of-Things. Some devices are used in security sensitive or critical applications, and their security capabilities are rightly attracting growing interest. This talk gives a brief overview of IoT, security issues in IoTs, continuing with discussion on the use of physical context to build, or improve, security services in IoT.
