Thanks to the support of the Enhancement and Start-up Grant Scheme for Self-financing Post-secondary Education (ESGS), Hong Kong Shue Yan University received a grant of approximately HK$19.5 million in the 2022/23 academic year. This funding enabled the launch of an innovative program — the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Digital Solutions in Entertainment and Game Applications (BSc-DSEGA). The introduction of this program reflects our commitment to educational excellence and serves as a proactive response to the evolving needs of the industry.

The grant allowed us to recruit outstanding teaching and research staff and establish state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including the Game Development Laboratory. These facilities significantly enhance the student learning experience by offering vital resources for exploring digital innovation, fostering creativity, conducting technical experiments, and undertaking interdisciplinary projects.

The laboratory is equipped with 41 MacBook computers, a large video wall, three robots, interactive whiteboards, a body tracking system, and 10 MetaQuest VR headsets. These cutting-edge tools empower students to bridge theory and practice, fostering a balance between creativity, innovation, and practical application.

On October 28, we hosted the grand opening of the Game Development Laboratory. We were honored to have Mr. LEE Chung Sin, Esmond, JP, Deputy Secretary for Education from the Education Bureau, and Prof. SUN Tien Lun, Catherine, Senior Vice President of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, as our distinguished guests to deliver opening speeches.

In addition, senior management from Shue Yan University and representatives from our industry partners, including Cyberport, Nvidia, Huawei, NTT, Propagate IP, and the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association, attended the event.

The opening ceremony featured a special Esports competition showcase, where student players teamed up with senior university management to participate in an exciting match. The event celebrated collaboration, innovation, and the future of game development in education and industry.
